Cameron's Trip to the Temple

My nephew, Elder Cameron Burnett, attended the Temple for the first time on Saturday, November 14th. It was a beautiful day, and we had a mini photo shoot afterward. Enjoy!

Afterward, we had some fun jump-starting the Burnett's car. Here we are making memories...

You just can't take him anywhere...

Once the car was up and running, we had a delicious lunch at Olive Garden.

I can't believe my oldest nephew is a missionary already. I am so proud of him, that he has lived his life to be worthy to serve a full-time mission. :)

A Princess and a Criminal

In October, I attended Clovis High's Homecoming Game. My niece, Rachel, was voted to be the Homecoming Princess for the Freshman class!

Leah got to ride in on the float for 'Anything Goes', Clovis High's 2009 musical.

Because it was Homecoming, alumni students were invited to come back and play with the band. So, I got to see Cameron play too!

In November, Ryan and I attended Anything Goes. Leah played the character Bonnie, a criminal accomplice who's also a bit "friendly" with the boys.

Rachel helped organize and run the props for the show. Here she is posing in the theatre lobby with one of her friends.

By the way, my co-worker saw this picture in my office...

and asked "Is that you with two of your friends?" I didn't know whether to feel complimented that I must look pretty young for 30, or to FREAK OUT because this means my nieces are growing up!! :)

Company Pictures

Recently, we purchased a SLR camera (Nikon D60). When it was time to take our annual company pictures, I helpfully volunteered Ryan to take them for us. We went to Woodward Park and took some shots around the office, and I think they turned out pretty well!

YW in Excellence Talk

This year, I introduced the 2010 Theme at Young Women in Excellence. Here was my talk:

I’d like to talk tonight about our Youth Theme for 2010. The scripture is Joshua, Chapter 1, verse 9.

Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the Lord thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest.

When I first heard this scripture, my thoughts went to Peter, the apostle, and particularly to this story:

Matt. 14: 24-33

24 But the ship was now in the midst of the sea, tossed with waves: for the wind was contrary.

25 And in the fourth watch of the night Jesus went unto them, walking on the sea.

26 And when the disciples saw him walking on the sea, they were troubled, saying, It is a spirit; and they cried out for fear.

27 But straightway Jesus spake unto them, saying, Be of good cheer; it is I; be not afraid.

28 And Peter answered him and said, Lord, if it be thou, bid me come unto thee on the water.

29 And he said, Come. And when Peter was come down out of the ship, he walked on the water, to go to Jesus.

30 But when he saw the wind boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink, he cried, saying, Lord, save me.

31 And immediately Jesus stretched forth his hand, and caught him, and said unto him, O thou of little faith, wherefore didst thou doubt?

32 And when they were come into the ship, the wind ceased.

33 Then they that were in the ship came and worshipped him, saying, Of a truth thou art the Son of God.

I love that story, and last year, I discovered a song by Jenny Phillips which relates Peter’s story to our life. I’d like to read the lyrics.

Like a ship that's worn, with a sail so torn,
drifting out to sea,the wind is blowing in,
and you're tossed again.
Is it time to leap behind the ship,
and walk to Him?

The anchor's gone, you're moving on
further from His arms.
Go to Him. Face the wind.
If you trust enough, His mighty love
will get you through.

Give up your fear.
Let go of doubt.
Lay down your load.
Let it go.

Do you believe that the seas
will hold your feet if you go?
Close your eyes, feel Him in sight,
walk to what you know is true.
And He will not fail you.

As I listen to these words, I imagine the Apostle Peter and the incredible faith he had as he stepped off that boat onto the water, and walked toward Jesus. In our life, do we let fear rule our actions, or are we able to step off the ship and walk towards Christ? I know trying to do this is a daily battle for me sometimes.

I’d like to read the 2010 theme one more time...

Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the Lord thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest.

I am excited to concentrate on this theme in 2010 with our Young Women.
